The deputy spokesperson for EH Bildu in Congress, Oskar Matute, has closed the door to the proposal launched by the spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) in the Lower House, Gabriel Rufián, who suggested articulating a union of left-wing forces in the State for the upcoming general elections.
In an interview granted to Radio Euskadi, Matute made it clear that the abertzale coalition does not contemplate that scenario and that it has no intention of "entering into negotiations to constitute anything organic".
During the conversation, the EH Bildu leader reflected on the rise of the far-right and recalled that his party already had "very clear that it was necessary to build a broad front, of the people of the left in Euskal Herria" since 2011. In his opinion, it is about "building political community", a step that he considers key to being able to face "the threat of the far-right with a position of strength, with a position of seeking hegemony, instead of being solely a defensive bulwark".
Matute also defended the evolution of his political space: "We continue to grow as EH Bildu. And, above all, we are building a political community that is based on values, that is based on positions that have nothing to do with what the far-right advocates," he stated, before warning that what the ultra forces propose "is nothing but a return to dark times."
In relation to the latest electoral results in Aragon, he assured that they received them "with concern", since "any result that shores up the strength of the reactionary right-wing - PP and Vox - is a cause for concern".
