The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Friday, July 3, that he will process in the next Council of Ministers the withdrawal of the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Health from psychiatrist Antonio Vallejo-Nájera. President Pedro Sánchez made a statement through his social network on X commenting on this.

"How is it possible that in the middle of 2026 a man who claimed that women had, "atrophied intelligence", that their only mission was to have children for the homeland, still holds one of the highest decorations of the State". Likewise, he has described Vallejo-Nájera as "Francoism's head psychiatrist", known as the "Spanish Mengele", for his experiments on the supposed "race cleansing", which held that those who defended social equality, political equality, "were mentally inferior", and who also treated progressive people as sick.

Sánchez continued his speech, adding that: "His theories served to justify the theft of babies during Francoism with the aim of preventing them from inheriting the supposed ideological degeneration of their fathers and mothers". Finally, the president wanted to emphasize that: "A State medal is not a simple trophy, it is the public recognition of a career and merits, and therefore, also of values, that is why we will take the step to withdraw that decoration".
