Pedro Sánchez has reacted to the agreement between PP and Vox for the Senate, ahead of the general elections on November 29, accusing both parties of representing the same political project. The President of the Government has published a message on his official X account accompanied by a video that contrasts the statements of popular leaders and the party of Santiago Abascal.

"They say the same thing. They vote the same thing. They govern together. And now they present joint lists for the Senate. PP and Vox. The same political project of involution," wrote the socialist leader after the pact was announced.

The understanding between Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Santiago Abascal affects 23 constituencies and seeks to reinforce their results against the alliance that the PSOE, Frente Amplio and territorial left-wing forces reached for the Upper House on October 16. The formula combines the renunciation of competing in certain territories with reduced Vox candidacies in others.

Pensions, women's rights and public services

In the video released by Sánchez, the blue of the PP and the green of Vox serve to question the differences between both formations. The piece links interventions on pensions, women's rights and the welfare state, as well as references to cuts and to Javier Milei.

After these statements, Sánchez maintains that the two parties have tried to present themselves as different alternatives: "For years they have tried to make us believe that they represented very different projects, but both their words and their actions make it very clear." The message culminates with an electoral appeal: "Two colors and the same project of involution. So you choose. Either Spain advances or the past advances."

Vox withdraws six candidacies and PP resigns in three territories

The agreement contemplates that the PP will not run for the Senate in Gipuzkoa, Girona, and Tarragona. For its part, Vox renounces to present its own candidacy in Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Cádiz, Valencia, Castellón, and the Balearic Islands.

In these six territories, the popular lists will incorporate an independent candidate proposed by Vox. It is not, therefore, a single shared state candidacy, but different forms of electoral collaboration depending on the constituency.

In addition, Vox will limit its candidacy to a single person in fourteen other provinces: Seville, Huelva, Asturias, Badajoz, Álava, Navarra, Cáceres, Huesca, Zaragoza, Alicante, Granada, Cuenca, Pontevedra, and Jaén.

As Miguel Tellado has explained, this formula will allow PP voters to vote for their three candidates and those who support Vox to choose the representative of that formation and two others from the popular candidacy.

Tellado celebrates an "intelligent collaboration"

The general secretary of the PP has presented the agreement as "very good news" and has defended that it responds to "generosity, vision, and a sense of state."

Tellado maintains that the pact will allow better use of the electoral support of both parties. "It is an intelligent collaboration and the millions of Spaniards who want change will feel proud and satisfied with this meeting point," he affirmed at a press conference.

Vox claims its coincidence with the PP against Sánchez

From Vox, they have insisted that they maintain differences with the popular ones, although they share the objective of removing Sánchez from power. The formation states that they are "very different political formations, with very different discourses," but recognizes their coincidence "in the need to expel Pedro Sánchez's criminal organization from the institutions," an accusation made by the party against the president and his entourage.

The general secretary of Vox, Ignacio Garriga, has also defended the understanding appealing to the responsibility of both forces. Sánchez, for his part, has used precisely this rapprochement to reinforce his criticism: PP and Vox share, in his opinion, the same political direction that would mean a regression for Spain.
