Pedro Sánchez ratifies his support for Zapatero and defends his wife and brother against judicial investigations

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, closed the political year this Tuesday with a review of the Executive's management. During the appearance, he answered journalists' questions related to the judicial situation of his wife Begoña Gómez, and his brother David Sánchez, recently sentenced to nine years of disqualification for the crime of malfeasance. "She is my wife and he is my brother, but they are two people who have trained and worked all their lives," he defended.

Regarding his brother, the socialist leader highlighted his academic profile and professional career, recalling that he is "a graduate in economics from ICADE, a graduate in Composition and Orchestra Conducting from the University of St. Petersburg, where he lived for 6 years," and also letting it be known that "he speaks perfect Russian, English, French, and Italian." Likewise, he showed his support, stating that "he has every right to appeal an unjust sentence and hopefully he will be proven right."

As for the situation of his wife, Begoña Gómez, the president emphasized that she is a professional who "had been working in her company for more than 10 years" but that she resigned to avoid conflicts of interest and any type of problem that could arise" when he became president. "We hope the judicial process ends as it should," he stressed.

The main keys to his management review

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, appeared at 12:10 this Tuesday from the Moncloa Palace to give the traditional political year review, after the last Council of Ministers before the August break, in a context marked by the lack of parliamentary support and the serious crisis caused by forest fires.

Sánchez began his speech by addressing the extreme crisis the country is experiencing due to the forest fires that have been registered in different parts of the country, and set the number of currently active fires at eight. The president expressed his support and empathy to the people affected by this situation and their families, while thanking the public institutions, servants, and servers who are fighting to combat the fire and protect the population.

Given the seriousness of this situation, Sánchez has invited all political forces, especially PP and Vox, administrations and society to be united against fire, stating that "climate denialism is the worst fuel for fires," and has insisted that today more than ever it is "imperative" to achieve that State pact that Spain needs. Even so, the leader of the executive has generated a climate of calm by assuring that "the end of the tunnel is beginning to be seen," and that the "Government of Spain will continue to mobilize the necessary resources until the last flame is extinguished."

The new National Health Agency will be located in Zaragoza

The president has also announced that the Council of Ministers has approved locating the State Public Health Agency in Zaragoza, the body created to respond to health emergencies. "A new example of what it means to bet on the territorial cohesion of our country" is how he defined it and expressed his "congratulations to the people of Zaragoza."

Another of the announcements made by the President of the Government during his appearance is the approval of the organic law project on public integrity, for which he has expressed that he "hopes that all parliamentary groups will rise to the occasion" and have the intention of dialogue to move forward with this initiative developed to fight against corruption.
