The general secretary of the PSOE and president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, presented himself this Saturday as a leader for “the common people” and as “a dog that has no master,” arguing that, if he serves anyone, it is precisely that sector of the citizenry, during his first major pre-campaign event for the general elections on November 29.
The intervention took place in the Los del Río auditorium, in the traditional socialist stronghold of Dos Hermanas (Seville), with the attendance of more than 5,000 people, according to the organization's estimates. Sánchez took advantage of the event to predict that the PSOE will “win” the elections and will be able to continue governing “four more years for the common people.”
Call to fill the ballot boxes against “hoaxes”
The socialist leader lashed out against what, in his opinion, is a campaign of “fear” and “hoaxes” spread by PP and Vox in relation to postal voting, criticisms that he linked to both parties' fear of losing the general elections.
In that context, Pedro Sánchez denounced the “fable of Pedro and the wolf” that, he said, representatives of both parties try to project onto him, and insisted that the popular party and Vox “are afraid to lose” because, he affirmed, “indeed, they are going to lose the elections.”
Furthermore, he reproached that those who previously defended that “whoever can do, let them do” now maintain, in his opinion, that “the fewer who vote, the better.” Against this, he argued that “in full ballot boxes, the people win” and that “in empty ballot boxes, those who pull the strings win,” which is why he encouraged massive participation on November 29.
“Everyone must go vote on November 29,” he demanded, while calling to fill the ballot boxes to ensure a socialist victory in the general elections.
Montero, Rodríguez and other socialist leaders, present at the event
Before Pedro Sánchez's intervention, the general secretary of the PSOE of Andalusia and deputy general secretary of the federal PSOE, María Jesús Montero, and the organization secretary of the PSOE-A and mayor of Dos Hermanas, Francisco Rodríguez, spoke.
Among those attending the event were also the organization secretary of the federal PSOE, Rebeca Torró; the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas; the deputy general secretary of the PSOE-A, María Márquez, and the general secretary of the PSOE of Seville and president of the Provincial Council, Javier Fernández.
