The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, reaffirmed this Saturday in Seville that the priority of her party in Andalusia is to strengthen the political space on the left. As she explained, the objective “is the same one we have in the country as a whole” and consists of “putting the left on its feet, that there be a strong left in Andalusia”, making it clear that “whoever wants to join in building a truly transformative left that serves to change things, of course, always has Podemos’s hand extended”.
Belarra has made these statements alongside the candidate for the Presidency of the Junta, Juan Antonio Delgado, before participating in a public event, and when asked about the possibility of Podemos running alone in the next Andalusian elections.
In his response, he has insisted on his party's will to promote unity within the progressive space. “This week, more than any other, it has become clear, especially with that announcement of an event between Irene Montero and Gabriel Rufián, that Podemos always, absolutely always, will do everything in its power to ensure that the left is strong and has the capacity for transformation”, he stated.
In his judgment, in recent years that political space has weakened. “And that is what has been lost in these last few years, an autonomous left, a brave left, an independent left, that can do what needs to be done in the most difficult moments,” he has affirmed.
Along these lines, he has defended the role of Podemos when it was part of the central Executive: “it has been clearly seen, when Podemos was in government social shields protected tenants, without Podemos in government, tenants are left in the most absolute helplessness.”
