"I strongly urge you to act with restraint and moderation in your conduct and language in the future". These were the words that the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, addressed to Alvise Pérez after his remarks to former minister Irene Montero. The leader of Se Acabó La Fiesta (SALF) told Montero that she had gotten this far "for marrying her boss". A comment that the MEP for Podemos has accused Alvise Pérez of being sexist.
"Made in the specific context of a debate on sexual harassment and abuse of power, your comments transcended the limits of legitimate political criticism. Article 10 of the Rules of Procedure establishes the conduct of deputies. The conduct of deputies shall be characterized by mutual respect. Deputies shall refrain from improper behavior and shall not resort to offensive language in parliamentary debates," Metsola clarifies in a statement.
A letter to which Alvise Pérez will reply in writing. Although President Metsola has emphasized that Strasbourg should be a space for respect and debate: "I strongly urge you to act with restraint and moderation in your conduct and language in the future".
