Viktor Orban admits his defeat in Hungary and congratulates the winner Péter Magyar https://t.co/LSY7ZIq2WC
The legislative elections in Hungary last Sunday have confirmed a political shift with the victory of Péter Magyar. His triumph puts an end to Viktor Orbán's dominance, who is relegated to the second force after 16 consecutive years in power.
The statements come in parallel to Sánchez's own reaction, who has applauded the result of the elections, calling them “historic”. The president congratulated the Hungarian citizens and Magyar, highlighting that “today Europe and European values win”, and showing his intention to collaborate with the new government.
From the Government, also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has supported this reading, underlining that the new scenario opens the door to strengthen a “strong and united” European Union around democratic principles.
For his part, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has also congratulated Magyar on his victory, highlighting that Hungary has opted for a “pro-European” option that will contribute to the stability of the continent.
