Emiliano García-Page, president of Castilla-La Mancha, has visited the program El Hormiguero of Atresmedia to discuss current Spanish politics. One of the key points in the interview with presenter Pablo Motos has been the controversial tension between the former socialist president, Felipe González, and the current president of the nation, Pedro Sánchez. García-Page has declared that González is "a leader in capital letters" and that the government "would do better if it asked him for advice".
The president of Castilla-La Mancha attributes the recent controversy to the government's desire to hide the non-invitation to a meeting between European leaders prior to the informal European Union summit in Belgium on European competitiveness. A meeting organized by Germany, Italy, and Belgium, which was attended by more than 20 European leaders. This did not sit well with the Spanish government, which reproached its absence. This led to the tense greeting between the first socialist president in democracy and the current one, which has garnered so many headlines last Tuesday in commemoration of the 1978 Constitution.
The Transition has been another topic addressed by Page, who believes that politics is currently in decline. For the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Spanish politics is at its furthest point from the spirit of the Transition and is at the lowest level he has ever seen. "The Transition was the most important era for this country. Not only as a historical period, but as a method of doing politics that is now being lost," he stated.
