The image of Lamine Yamal waving a Palestinian flag during the celebration of the FC Barcelona League has ended up becoming an issue of international dimension. What began as a spontaneous gesture during the champions' parade ended up generating an intense political and social debate on social media, especially among Israeli and Palestinian supporters of the *azulgrana* team.

The controversy took an even greater leap after the Minister of Defense of Israel, Israel Katz, publicly lashed out against the young footballer. In a message published on the social network X, Katz accused the forward of “inciting against Israel and fueling hatred” in the midst of the offensive against Hamás, in addition to demanding that Barça publicly distance itself from any message that, according to him, could be interpreted as support for terrorism.

From the *azulgrana* club there has been no official pronouncement on the matter, although coach Hansi Flick acknowledged that he does not like these types of gestures linked to political issues. Even so, the German coach defended that the decision belongs to the player himself and recalled that Lamine is barely 18 years old and is experiencing enormous media exposure.

The one who did clearly come out in defense of the footballer was Pep Guardiola. The Catalan coach defended that athletes have the right to express their opinions and stated that he felt proud of the *azulgrana* player's gesture. Guardiola insisted that a footballer is also a public figure with social influence and took the opportunity to once again show his support for the Palestinian cause and denounce the suffering of the civilian population in Gaza.

In Palestine Yamal's image has been received as a symbol of support and solidarity. In recent hours, photographs of murals painted among destroyed buildings in Gaza with the footballer's name have gone viral, as well as messages of gratitude written in the sand next to Palestinian flags dedicated to the young Barça player.
