The Minister of Health, Mónica García, has starred this Saturday in a harsh attack against the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, on account of the management of the hantavirus crisis. During a public intervention, García assured that one of the “advantages” during the health situation was precisely that Ayuso “was not in Spain”.
The leader of Más Madrid stated that the good functioning of the health response was due, in the first place, to the “solid network of public services”, but added that Ayuso's absence also helped, as she was in Mexico during those days. “We can work much better when Ms. Ayuso is not in Spain,” she declared, before ironically apologizing to the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, for the statements and attitudes of the Madrid leader.
Mónica García also harshly criticized the regional Government's actions upon her return to Spain. According to her denunciation, Ayuso promoted a poster campaign in schools and institutes alerting about the hantavirus with messages that, in the minister's opinion, generated fear and misinformation among the Madrid population.
The minister also reproached that the Madrid president arrived “later than many Spanish passengers” coming from the affected areas and recalled the criticisms that arose from the situation of several citizens in Cabo Verde. García's statements once again escalate the political clash between the central Government and the Community of Madrid, especially in health matters.
