Junts would have put on the table, as reported by 'ElPlural.com', different scenarios in case the door was opened to a replacement for Pedro Sánchez at the head of the Government. In that framework, the name of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, appears as one of the options that would fit the conditions proposed by the party.
According to that information, the party believes that the future president of the Executive should have management experience and "capacity to execute agreements", which has led to some members of the current Council of Ministers being considered as potentially valid profiles. Among them, Puente would be the one who arouses the most interest.
The party also leaves open the option that an eventual substitute does not belong to the current Executive nor be a deputy, provided that they meet the requirements of interlocution capacity and compliance with political agreements. In that context, it is pointed out that the choice of the presidential candidate would fall to the PSOE. "We are not looking for or naming any name," say the same sources, although they acknowledge that in the internal debate Óscar Puente is mentioned as a profile that would fit the established criteria.
Junts points out that there are voices within the PSOE that would be evaluating options to replace Sánchez
The leader of Junts, Jordi Turull, has framed these statements in an interview on 'SER Catalunya', where he defended the proposal launched by his party to open an alternative scenario to the continuity of Pedro Sánchez, based on the so-called "Starmer path", proposed by the spokesperson for Junts in Congress, Míriam Nogueras.
As he explained, this initiative would not be "improvised" and would be part of a debate that would have already appeared in certain socialist circles at different times.
In that context, the Junts leader pointed out that, if the PSOE were willing to address this issue, his party would be willing to a formal negotiation with the socialist party, which could be developed discreetly with the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont.
Turull has linked this approach to the stability of the legislature, and to the need to "prevent the acceleration of the incorporation of the extreme right." He also indicated that any attempt to articulate an alternative government from the Popular Party, in the form of an instrumental motion of no confidence, should be concretized in a formal proposal backed by its leadership.
