The Congress of Deputies puts to a vote this Thursday the different social shield measures after the omnibus decree that included them was rejected in January. The Government has decided to fragment the package so that each initiative is voted on independently.
Among the initiatives submitted to a vote are the extension of the anti-eviction moratorium and other measures of protection for vulnerable groups, in a context marked by inflation and difficulties in accessing housing. The Executive defends that these tools are essential to guarantee social cohesion.
Another of the points being debated is the revaluation of pensions according to the CPI, a measure that affects millions of retirees and pensioners. The Executive maintains that this update is necessary to maintain purchasing power in the face of the increase in the cost of living.
The vote takes place in a climate of political confrontation, with the opposition maintaining its criticism of the initial approach of the decree and the Government defending the urgency of moving forward with the social measures. The update of pensions is part of the block that is now presented separately for its validation. It is expected that the Partido Popular, Vox and Junts per Catalunya may again reject some sections of the social shield, as already happened with the initial decree.
