The PNV has this Saturday increased pressure on Pedro Sánchez by openly demanding an early election given the deterioration of the legislature and the growing political crisis surrounding the Government. The spokesperson for the Basque nationalists in Congress, Maribel Vaquero, believes that the Executive no longer has the capacity to guarantee stability and has warned that “letting time pass” will not solve the current situation.

In an interview on RNE, Vaquero argued that the legislature “is exhausted” due to the lack of budgets, the blocking of important initiatives, and the multiple open judicial investigations affecting the PSOE's circle and the Prime Minister himself. In her opinion, the general interest demands that Sánchez dissolve the Cortes and allow citizens to decide a new political direction at the polls.

The PNV leader insisted that the Government cannot “close its eyes to reality” nor trust that the wear and tear will diminish with the passing of months. “You have to take the bull by the horns”, she summarized, before warning that the current political tension only benefits Vox and increases the feeling of institutional blockage.

Despite hardening her tone against Sánchez, Vaquero wanted to make it clear that the PNV is not negotiating any motion of no confidence with the PP or with any other party. The Basque spokesperson also ironized about the criticisms launched by the popular party towards the Government's parliamentary partners and accused the PP of trying to transfer its own political responsibilities to others.

The nationalist spokesperson also lashed out at Bildu for its support of the Executive and assured that the abertzale left wants to prolong the legislature “as much as possible” for political interest. Likewise, she questioned whether the PSOE can continue governing “by divine mandate” and raised doubts about the impact that future judicial resolutions related to the Ábalos case and other investigations surrounding the socialist circle may have.
