The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has demanded that the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, clarify his position on the conflict in Iran and distance himself from Donald Trump. During the control session in Congress, Sánchez reproached him for not having said “whether he supports or not the war of Trump and Israel in Iran”, placing the debate in the international arena and questioning the ambiguity of the PP.
The head of the Executive raised the tone by accusing Feijóo of aligning himself with those who provoke the conflict. “You cannot encourage and support those who set fires and then complain about those who cause that fire.” Furthermore, he defended that the Government “does assume its responsibilities” in the face of international crises.
Sánchez also criticized the PP's attitude towards future economic measures to alleviate the effects of the conflict, suggesting that the populars already anticipate their rejection. “He is already putting the bandage on before the wound”, he affirmed, in reference to Feijóo's refusal to support possible decrees from the Executive, recalling his opposition in previous crises.
For his part, Feijóo focused his intervention on the economic plane and on the Government's management, advising to avoid a new omnibus decree. “Don't even think about bringing the measures in an omnibus decree,” he warned, demanding instead tax cuts such as income tax, energy VAT or fuel taxes, and accusing the Executive of “squeezing Spaniards.”
