The mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, denies the dismissal of the chief commissioner of the Local Police, Luis Antonio Moreno, due to the complaint of two women for domestic and gender violence and for family abuse. The City Council declares that until there is a final ruling, they will not take measures. Previously, when Moreno was assigned to Torrejón de Ardoz, he had complaints for sexual and workplace harassment.
This is not the first controversy the Partido Popular mayor has been involved in. Since she arrived at City Hall in 2023, her words have transcended municipal debate. She was judicially investigated last year for the alleged leak of police reports on sexual assaults to link migration with crime. The case was opened for a possible offense of infidelity in the custody of official documents, which, if confirmed, would lead to disqualification from holding public office.
It would not be the first time that he has lashed out against migration. On other occasions, he has stated that the Alcalá migrant center is saturated and generates conflicts among neighbors, calling for its immediate closure. Furthermore, on February 17, the City Council approved, with the support of Vox, the prohibition of the burqa and niqab in municipal facilities. Both this measure and his statements have generated unease and debate in the opposition.
Another of Piquet's recent controversies occurred last December, when the PSOE denounced that a permanent position was awarded to her in the City Council incompatible with her work as mayor. It is a position in the category of Local Development Agent. The socialists declared that the way she proceeded was questionable, during "the height of Christmas" and "on the sly."
