The Popular Parliamentary Group has rejected Sumar's proposal to hold a meeting with its spokesperson, Ester Muñoz, with the aim of addressing the validation of the housing royal decree-law in Congress. According to PP sources, the response conveyed has been clear: they will not attend the meeting because its position on the text "is well known" and has already been publicly announced.

From the circle of Alberto Núñez Feijóo they insist that the “social shield” that the Government proposes “the Government has to pay for it, not the citizens”, thus refusing to assume the cost of measures they consider failed. In this regard, PP sources assure that “people do not have to pay for the Government's incompetence in housing”.

The popular party raises the tone against the Executive of Pedro Sánchez and directly questions its policy in this area. "If the government's housing policy is a disaster, let them change it. But let them not pretend that people help them cover it up," they point out from the parliamentary group.

The PP's rejection comes after Sumar tried to open a negotiation channel to guarantee the validation of the decree in Congress, at a time when parliamentary support is tight. The party led by Yolanda Díaz seeks to prevent the norm from failing, for which it needs the support of other forces, including the main opposition party.

From the PP, however, they rule out any rapprochement and criticize the content of the decree, considering that it does not address the real housing problem. “The solution is not to intervene more in the market, but to build more homes and provide legal certainty to owners and tenants,” they maintain.

Furthermore, the popular party underlines that the housing access crisis is “structural” and not cyclical, and that the royal decree-law does not offer “realistic solutions”. In their opinion, the policies promoted by the Executive in recent years have contributed to aggravating the situation.
