The spokesperson for the PSOE Federal Executive, Montse Mínguez, has denounced the existence of an alleged “accelerated judicial calendar” in investigations affecting socialist leaders, with the aim of bringing down the government of Pedro Sánchez before the summer.
In an interview with RNE, Mínguez criticized the “haste” with which some judges are pushing forward procedures related to the PSOE. As an example, she cited the summons as an investigated party of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who will have to testify next week before the Audiencia Nacional.
The socialist leader defended Zapatero's presumption of innocence and stressed that, so far, the suspicions gathered in reports from the Central Operative Unit (UCO) must be judicially proven. However, she acknowledged that the former president will have to offer explanations about the investigated facts.
Mínguez maintained that there is a difference in treatment between cases affecting the left and those related to right-wing leaders. In this regard, she mentioned the case of former popular minister Cristóbal Montoro, assuring that his procedure is progressing more slowly than other processes linked to the PSOE.
The spokesperson also backed the party's president, Cristina Narbona, called to testify as a witness in the so-called Leire Díez case. As she explained, Narbona is “calm” and will be able to answer the judge's questions normally.
Regarding former minister José Luis Ábalos, whose sentence is expected in the coming days, Mínguez insisted that the PSOE will not answer for a person who ceased to be part of the organization more than two years ago. She also indicated that the party continues to study possible legal actions against former member Leire Díez.
