Vox unleashes conspiratorial delirium in Ceuta and accuses Sánchez of wanting to prevent elections and cede the city to Morocco

The far-right Vox has taken its offensive over the Ceuta crisis this Tuesday to a conspiracy theory that mixes the suspension of the next general elections, a supposed plan to provoke disturbances, and the cession of Spanish sovereignty to Morocco. None of these accusations has been accompanied by evidence.

The spokesperson for Vox in the Congress of Deputies, Pepa Millán, has stated that Pedro Sánchez is "capable of not calling elections" and of doing "the legal and the illegal" to remain in La Moncloa. According to her account, the Government would be deliberately prolonging the crisis to use insecurity as an excuse and avoid elections that, if the legislature is completed, should be held in 2027.

Millán has also accused the president of acting as a "Moroccan agent", has called him a "traitor in every sense of the word" and has assured that Moncloa seeks a "social outburst" with which to justify a future "co-sovereignty" of Ceuta and Melilla. The far-right spokesperson has not provided documents, intelligence reports, or political decisions to support this alleged plan.

A conspiracy that clashes with the Constitution and the facts

The possibility that Sánchez indefinitely prolongs the legislature has no place in the Spanish legal system. Article 68 of the Constitution establishes that the mandate of the Congress ends four years after the elections and that the next elections must be held between 30 and 60 days later. The president can propose an early dissolution, but lacks the capacity to unilaterally suppress the electoral call.

Vox has also revived its proposal to apply article 102 of the Constitution to bring Sánchez before the Supreme Court for treason. This path requires the accusation to be brought by at least a quarter of the Congress, 88 deputies, and subsequently approved by an absolute majority, 176 votes. Santiago Abascal's party has 33 seats and has not specified what criminal conduct of the president would justify an accusation of such gravity.

The portrayal of a completely immobile Government also clashes with the data communicated this Tuesday. The Council of Ministers has approved 309 million euros to reinforce reception, security, health, education, justice, and the Ceuta economy. The single command has reported 3,400 people housed, 3,519 voluntary returns between August 10 and 31, and 214 expulsions.

The ultra spokeswoman has described Ceuta as a "war scenario" and has assured that there are families who are enrolling their children in Algeciras. She has not offered figures, names of educational centers, or official data that would allow verifying this statement. She has also maintained that 7,000 Ceutians left the city after the 2021 crisis, another figure presented during the press conference without explaining its origin.

Millán has also used the 23 sexual assaults that, she pointed out, have been investigated since the beginning of the crisis to extend responsibility to all migrants.

Vox turns protests into an offensive against everyone

Abascal's party intends to take this discourse to the concentrations called for this Wednesday by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). Millán has rejected the institutional and unitary nature defended by the PP and by the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, and has warned that the acts will also serve to "point out the culprits."

"What are we going for then? To sing carols?" launched the parliamentary spokeswoman, who has called for maintaining a "constant mobilization" against the Government. Vox will attend to attack Sánchez, directly blame Morocco, and reproach the PP for its supposed "lukewarmness," despite the fact that the popular party has also supported the calls.

Vox's pressure reaches the Ceuta government itself. Millán has demanded that Vivas break his agreements with the PSOE and with the Muslim parties of the Assembly, a partisan demand made while the regional administration and the central Executive coordinate new accommodations, public services, and care for minors.

The party has also registered an initiative to suspend the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation signed with Morocco, withdraw the Spanish ambassador in Rabat, and expel the Moroccan representative in Madrid. It also demands militarizing the border, building a wall, blocking Morocco's preferential agreement with the European Union, and returning all people who entered irregularly.

Millán has finally taken advantage of the controversy surrounding the future visit of Felipe VI to Ceuta to assure that Sánchez deliberately used the monarch with the purpose of diverting attention. This Wednesday, Santiago Abascal will participate in the concentration in Madrid, where the presence of Alberto Núñez Feijóo is also planned. The far-right Vox has already announced that it will attend to turn it into a mobilization against the Government and against the position of the PP itself.
