The spokesperson for ERC in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, broke his silence this Friday, the last day to present coalitions before the Electoral Board. In an interview he gave on Rac1, he lamented the failure to unite the left. "I have failed, we have failed. I would like there to be a real front, an understanding. I have done everything I could to simplify the electoral offer," he stated.
“Hopefully it happens, but it is very likely that it won't be like that." In this way, Rufián has practically ruled out a single left-wing coalition to the left of the PSOE for the November 29 elections. "If there is a historic moment when we have to agree and talk, it is this one." However, in the hours that remain, the outlook is against this initiative.
Rufián: "Every day I think about leaving"
The ERC spokesperson has expressed his discomfort at not reaching the pact, which he has often called a personal failure. “Every day I think about leaving, because I have failed, but if there is a minimum chance that someone will vote for me, it's worth it,” he declared for La Hora de La 1.
However, he assured that he never had the plan to replace Yolanda Díaz or to lead the Spanish left, thus reaffirming his commitment to Esquerra Republicana. "I haven't thought about leaving the party. I am loyal to my party and I asked the party to understand its historical role," he said. “I will never leave Esquerra unless they kick me out, and they haven't kicked me out,” he added.
He gives no room for the rupture of the left
Regarding the negotiations and discrepancies between the left-wing parties to reach a coalition, he assured that “tying ourselves to each other is of little use, I am not going to criticize or badmouth anyone.” As for the candidates from Podemos and Frente Amplio, he said: “I only have good words for Ada Colau, for Irene Montero, I am not going to criticize anyone,” reiterating that he will not criticize anyone or publicize internal debates.
