Sánchez condemns Ayuso for the luxury penthouse: "This lady wanted to buy a huge penthouse with the money of the people of Madrid"

The President of the Government has taken advantage of the interview to also comment on the controversy surrounding the penthouse acquired by the Community of Madrid for more than six million euros. Sánchez has questioned both the operation and the explanations offered by Isabel Díaz Ayuso's Executive and has focused on the lack of transparency and accountability.

"I think it is what it seems," he replied when asked about the purchase. He then raised his tone against the Madrid president: "What it seems is that this lady wanted to buy a huge penthouse with the money of the people of Madrid, to live in it."

Sánchez has considered that the case poses a problem for the Popular Party in terms of transparency and accountability. In this regard, he has demanded that the leader of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, adopt a more active position regarding the operation, especially after his statements that he knew about the matter since April. "What did he know since April? If this lady says she didn't know anything. Did he know and she didn't? Come on, it's what it seems," the president said, referring to Ayuso's and Feijóo's explanations.

The head of the Executive has also questioned that the acquisition occurs while, as he has pointed out, Ayuso does not apply the Housing Law. Sánchez has ironized about the characteristics of the property and has spoken of an apartment of 400 square meters and 200 of terrace, before linking the controversy with a supposed "sense of impunity" among certain right-wing leaders.

Defense of David Sánchez and Begoña Gómez

During the same interview, Sánchez has also defended his brother, David Sánchez, sentenced by the Audiencia de Badajoz to nine years of disqualification for prevarication in the case of the Diputación square, and his wife, Begoña Gómez, judicially investigated.

The president has accused certain media, commentators, and the opposition of mixing different corruption cases and has claimed that the PSOE has acted forcefully when investigations have affected members of his party.

Regarding David Sánchez, he has described the sentence as "unjust" and has defended his academic and professional career. In his opinion, the judicial procedure against his brother would not have occurred in the same way if he were not a relative of the president.

Regarding Begoña Gómez, Sánchez has maintained a similar thesis and has assured that he is convinced that she is immersed in a judicial process “not for what she has done, not for being Begoña Gómez, but for being the wife of the President of the Government”.

Sánchez calls for more resources and commitment against gender violence

The president also addressed during the conversation the spike in femicides recorded during the summer. Sánchez has defined gender violence as a “structural violence” and has defended public investment aimed at combating it.

As he explained, the Government plans to allocate 1.500 million euros over the next five years within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence. For Sánchez, in addition to economic resources, it is essential to maintain social awareness about the seriousness of the problem and avoid any form of trivialization.

The president also vindicated the law promoted during the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, whose twentieth anniversary was recently commemorated, for turning violence against women into a matter of State.

Sánchez wants the 2030 World Cup final to be played in Spain

The interview also left a statement about one of the major sporting events that Spain will host in the coming years. Asked about the possibility of the 2030 World Cup final being held on Spanish territory, Sánchez assured that the Government will work to achieve it.

“That we are going to work for it to be so, have no doubt,” he affirmed. The president recalled that Spain already won the World Cups held in South Africa and the United States and added, in a relaxed tone: “Well, it's time to win it here in Spain, isn't it? At home”.

Regarding the possibility that FIFA, under the presidency of Gianni Infantino, would finally opt for Morocco to host the final, Sánchez avoided anticipating scenarios and insisted that the Executive will do everything possible for the decisive match to be played in Spain.
