The PSOE has assured that it will participate in “all electoral debates” held between now and the general elections on November 29, although it has stressed that the organization of these meetings corresponds to the media, and not to political parties, which, it emphasizes, should not decide “where and with whom to debate”.
In a statement, the socialists thus respond to the conditions set by Génova and make it clear that they will study all proposals they receive, “with the unequivocal will to participate in all of them”, while defending that electoral debates are a fundamental exercise in democracy and an opportunity for citizens to learn about and compare the proposals of the different political forces.
From Ferraz they insist that they will be “in all electoral debates”, in a message with which they seek to close the door to any exception.
Feijóo accepts face-to-face with Sánchez and proposes November 16
For its part, the Popular Party (PP) has announced that its president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, accepts the face-to-face with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, proposed by Mediaset, and suggests that the debate be held on November 16, according to the party's campaign director, Miguel Tellado, in a letter sent this morning to the different communication groups.
In that letter, the popular leader also assures that Feijóo will attend an interview with RTVE, but only if it is conducted by in-house professionals and not an external contractor, a condition that the party links to the format of that informative meeting.
The PP maintains, in its statement, that the general election campaign offers a “fantastic opportunity to confront models between the Spain that is coming and the Spain that is leaving” and adds that, given the “impossibility” of attending all requests for interviews and debates, it has chosen to accept two debates and an interview on public television.
The PP also opens up to the Atresmedia debate
Regarding Atresmedia's proposal, the popular party recalls that in 2023 the first bilateral debate was held on the first Monday of the campaign and maintains that this formula fits them for this occasion, so they propose setting it for November 26.
Thus, while the PSOE emphasizes that the media will organize the meetings and reiterates its willingness to attend all of them, the PP already defines its conditions for the different formats, with the acceptance of the duel between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the proposal of a specific date for that debate and the opening to another meeting with all candidates.
