The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has stated that pensions will be revalued "with or without the PP," after Congress rejected the measure included in an omnibus decree last Tuesday, which was defeated with votes against from the PP, Vox, and Junts.
During a PSOE electoral event held in Teruel, Sánchez addressed pensioners from Aragon and the entire country to assure them that the pension increase will be applied "come what may," recalling that this commitment has been maintained throughout the seven years he has been at the head of the Executive. In the same vein, the government spokesperson and Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Elma Saiz, conveyed a message of "confidence" and reiterated the "firm commitment" of the PSOE and the central government to pensioners. Saiz stressed that the Executive will continue working to guarantee the revaluation and prevent this group from being left unprotected, in contrast to what she described as the "abandonment" by the Popular Party.
The minister made these statements this Sunday during a visit to the town of Medina de Pomar in Burgos, where she was accompanied by the mayor, Isaac Angulo, and by socialist officials from the autonomous community. **There, Saiz alluded to what she defined as a "black week" for pensioners, both nationally and for the nearly 750,000 in Castilla y León, following the parliamentary blockade of the decree that included the updating of pensions.** Likewise, she recalled the PP's stance in previous government periods, pointing out that pensions were frozen with minimal increases of 0.25%, and maintained that the Popular Party has repeatedly opposed their revaluation.
Today I tell the retirees of all of Spain: pensions will be revalued, with or without the PP.

The Government, for its part, plans to resume talks with parliamentary groups to push through the pension increase and is working on the approval of a new decree that could reach the Council of Ministers this Tuesday, as reported by the newspaper El País. **Sánchez has also criticized the PP's rejection of pension updates in line with the CPI for 2026** and has questioned the arguments put forward by the popular party, recalling that the decree included measures such as the social electricity bonus or the advance payment of aid to municipalities affected by the *dana* in Valencia.
