The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has lashed out this Saturday against the leaders of the Partido Popular and Vox, Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Santiago Abascal, whom he has accused of acting with “hypocrisy” by supporting the war promoted by Donald Trump in Iran while, according to him, its economic consequences fall on the citizens.

Sánchez made these statements during an event of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party in Soria, in which he was accompanied by the socialist candidate for the Junta of Castilla y León, Carlos Martínez, and by the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo.

During his speech, the head of the Executive criticized that both Feijóo and Abascal support the conflict despite its impact on the domestic economy. “Feijóo is not going to pay for the gas or the heating of homes in Soria, nor is Abascal going to pay for the gasoline of tractors in León, Zamora or Palencia, but both support Trump's war in Iran. They are hypocrites, because it is very easy to be belligerent at the expense of others' pockets,” he stated.

Sánchez also reproached both parties for their alignment with the United States. In his opinion, maintaining an alliance with that country does not imply "giving them the reason and always saying amen", as he believes PP and Vox do. In this regard, he accused both formations of "confusing sovereignty with servility".

The president also recalled the precedent of the Iraq War in 2003 to warn of the consequences of that type of decisions. “That war lasted 8 years and claimed the lives of more than 300,000 people, most of them civilians, women and girls, who today have no future. The same ones who then started a war against Spanish public opinion, are the ones who today again support the war in Iran, demonstrating that they have learned nothing and that they are wrong in everything, in everything”, he pointed out.

Finally, he defended that his Government's position seeks to place Spain on the side of international law and peace. “We choose to be with the force of law because that benefits everyone and the law of the strongest only benefits one”, he concluded.
