The main leaders of Sumar, Más Madrid, Izquierda Unida, and Comuns will meet again this Monday in Madrid in a gathering marked by two simultaneous fronts: the possibility of an early election, after the rejection of the housing decrees, and the consolidation of their common project under the new brand Frente Amplio.

The meeting will have a broader format than on previous occasions, as it will not only include the parties present in the parliamentary group but also other political allies of the minority partner in the Executive. Among the guests are Compromís, Chunta Aragonesista, Més per Mallorca, and Verdes Equo, in an attempt to continue taking steps in the construction of that joint candidacy that the organizations integrated into the new brand have already agreed to launch.

After the meeting, scheduled in the capital, the leader of Más Madrid and Minister of Health, Mónica García; the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun; the federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida, Antonio Maíllo; and the parliamentary spokesperson in Congress and co-coordinator of Movimiento Sumar, Verónica Martínez Barbero, will appear before the media at noon.

The political reading of the moment

The parties integrated into the new space have announced that in that appearance they will assess the current political situation, conditioned by the hypothesis of a possible early election, and will offer more details about the launch of the new candidacy, set for October 17.

In this context, Sumar maintains that the eventual electoral call is an exclusive competence of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and states that it will respect the decision he makes, although it has already agreed to accelerate the implementation of the future electoral coalition, regardless of whether the calendar is brought forward or not.

The party has also focused on this week's mobilizations, which it interprets as a social "clamor" for institutions and parties to act against "rentism", while emphasizing that "there is no legislature without housing".

Internal disagreements and electoral horizon

Not all of Sumar's parliamentary partners will attend the meeting. This is the case of Més, whose Balearic leadership wants to negotiate bilaterally, see how the new space of the Frente Amplio settles, and analyze its attitude towards possible territorial convergences for 2027.

Despite these differences, the organizations involved insist that, whether elections are called or not, they will continue working on measures against the housing crisis and on a common strategy that they present as the "essential" left to revalidate the Government.

Pending the electoral announcement that has been pending since February, the four parties that make up the governmental space agreed to go together to the next elections, while names such as Mónica García, Ernest Urtasun, the Minister of Social Rights, Pablo Bustinduy, who has ruled himself out on several occasions, or the former mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau continue to be mentioned in the polls.
