Sumar speaks out on Zapatero seeing the situation as "unacceptable," demanding explanations from Pedro Sánchez regarding the `Plus Ultra´ case

Alberto Ibañez, deputy spokesperson for Sumar in Congress and Compromís deputy, has highlighted that the judicial situation of former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is "politically untenable" and that he could have crossed the "fine line between lobbying and commissionism."

For this reason, he has demanded that the PSOE and José Luis Zapatero must give "many explanations" about the rescue of the Plus Ultra airline, since there are many "unknowns" about this operation and Zapatero's role. Likewise, he indicated this Tuesday in a press conference in the Congress before the interrogation of businessman Julio Martínez Martínez, Zapatero's partner, by the judge investigating the 'Plus Ultra' case, José Luis Calama.

Martínez also wanted to assure that the former Prime Minister "set the steps to follow" and admitted a 1% commission for mediating in the 53 million euro rescue granted by the Government to the airline during the pandemic. Afterwards, he requested to also focus on businessmen who become "corruptors to buy politicians," although it cannot be overlooked that the previous letter sent by Martínez to the Audiencia Nacional about Zapatero's alleged role is "profoundly serious." During his press appearance, the deputy said that the PSOE and Sánchez "have to give explanations if it is true that there was that 1% commission, despite the fact that the Plus Ultra company recognizes that perhaps they even paid him unnecessarily and that they were going to rescue them anyway."

The Compromís leader did not stop there; he requested "responsibility" and warned the PSOE that "it has to break with its bipartisan tradition very close to the classic corruption of kickbacks, cartels, and other types of operations disguised in the name of lobbying and commissionism." To conclude, he urged the socialists to definitively unblock the lobbying law and also to undertake measures of "democratization of justice" for the return of summer, especially after the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union that endorses the amnesty law and that "the national robes still seem not to understand." And finally, he emphasized that the PSOE has to stop "acting like Bourbons" and completely disassociate itself from its "bipartisan tradition."
