The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will temporarily exercise her functions from a penthouse located in the Madrid district of Chamberí while the planned works in the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the regional Executive, are carried out.
The property was acquired by the public company Planifica Madrid on April 14, although the operation had not been revealed until now as it only appeared in the Property Registry, but it does not appear incorporated into the public body's transparency portal, as reported by 'El País'.
Sources from the regional Executive have justified the acquisition of this property with the rehabilitation of the Puerta del Sol building, whose works "will begin during the month of August." According to these same sources, Ayuso will carry out her institutional activity there accompanied by a reduced team while the works last.
However, the acquisition has raised doubts due to the scarce information offered by the regional Executive about the operation. The Madrid government has not yet communicated the amount paid for the property nor has it specified the scope of the planned actions in the Real Casa de Correos, which had already undergone renovations just a year ago.
According to what was published by 'El País', the home belonged to the writer Astrid Gil-Casares, ex-wife of the president of Ferrovial, Rafael del Pino Calvo-Sotelo. The penthouse has an area of approximately 500 square meters and a large terrace, in one of the areas with the highest real estate value in the capital.
In addition, the lack of information about the purchase has put the focus on Planifica Madrid, the public company responsible for managing part of the Community's real estate assets and chaired by the Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel García Martín. The operation did not appear in the entity's known budget planning nor in the information published on its transparency portal.
