The parliamentary investigation into the historic power outage that affected Spain on April 28 of last year enters a decisive phase with the start of appearances in the Congress of Deputies

The first to sit before the commission will be José Damián Bogas, CEO of Endesa; Francisco Reynés, president of Naturgy; and Mario Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola. Their explanations will be decisive to understand what failed in the electrical system and if there were avoidable errors in the management.

The Congress commission takes over from the investigation carried out in the Senate, promoted by the Popular Party, which used its absolute majority to approve very critical conclusions with the Government. In that report, the former minister Teresa Ribera and the vice president Sara Aagesen were directly pointed out as political responsible parties for the incident.

The focus was also placed on Beatriz Corredor, president of Redeia, as well as on the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC). Now, Congress aims to broaden the analysis with more appearances and a more transversal approach.

In the list of names agreed upon by the parliamentary groups, other key profiles from the energy sector are included, such as the Director of Operations of Red Eléctrica, Concepción Sánchez Pérez; the global CEO of Iberdrola, Pedro Azagra; and the Secretary of State for Energy, Joan Groizard, among other institutional and technical officials.

The commission is chaired by the deputy of the Basque Nationalist Party Idoia Sagastizábal and has opted for an agile and direct format: interrogations without speeches, with turns of 20 minutes per parliamentary group. Only independent experts will be able to intervene with an initial presentation before answering questions.
