The controversial judge Peinado and his equestrian business: more than 766,000 euros in prizes and 50,000 won in 2025 with a single horse

The judge Juan Carlos Peinado, instructor of the case against Begoña Gómez, has for years combined his judicial activity with an intense presence in the world of horse racing. According to an investigation published by 'El Periódico', the magistrate and his family circle accumulate 766,860 euros in prizes thanks to the participation of his stables in competitions held in Spain and France.

The data indicates that five stables linked to the judge and his children have participated in at least 271 races since 2005. Only since April 2024, when Peinado took over the investigation against the wife of the President of the Government, the horses related to his circle have competed on 58 occasions, significantly increasing their activity in the last two years.

This year's main protagonist has been Canalejas, an animal owned by the magistrate that has brought him more than 50,000 euros in prizes during 2025. The horse recently won the Pontarme prize at the Paris Longchamp racecourse, a victory that left around 44,000 euros between prize and subsidy.

The investigation also focuses on the family dimension of equestrian activity. Several stables appear linked to the name of the magistrate, his son and his daughter Patricia Peinado, PP councilor in Pozuelo de Alarcón. According to the published information, the councilor did not reflect the ownership of horses in her declaration of assets presented in 2023 despite the competitive activity of her stable.

The names of some animals also reflect cultural and historical references linked to the judge's personal interests, with horses baptized as Galdós, Valle Inclán, Azorín, Unamuno or Campomanes. La Adrada also appears, an Abulense municipality where Peinado owns a chalet that has generated media attention in recent years.

The information also states that the magistrate's equestrian activity widely exceeds the recreational scope and presents characteristics of genuine business exploitation. The first race linked to his circle for which records exist was held in 2005 at the San Sebastián racecourse, initiating a trajectory that has remained active for two decades.
