The Junta Electoral Central (JEC) has sided with the Partido Popular and has confirmed the appearance of María Jesús Montero next April 20 in the Senate's investigation committee on the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI). The decision comes after the PSOE's attempts to stop her summons.
The JEC has backed the PP's stance by rejecting the appeals presented by the PSOE, which guarantees that María Jesús Montero will appear. The decision clears up the legal doubts raised regarding the summons and confirms that the planned schedule goes ahead without changes.
The appearance will take place next April 20 at 11:00 hours in the Senate, within the work of the commission that investigates the management of SEPI. This body analyzes, among other matters, the use of public funds in company rescue operations and the procedures followed during recent years, especially after the crisis derived from the pandemic.
From the Popular Party, they consider that this appearance is key to clarify possible irregularities and demand political responsibilities in relation to the management of SEPI. For its part, the PSOE had tried to stop or postpone the summons alleging reasons related to the electoral calendar in Andalusia, since Montero is the socialist candidate for the ballot box appointment on May 17.
