Pedro Sánchez was received with insults, whistles, and jeers from ultras upon his arrival at Plaza Cánovas del Castillo, in Madrid, to attend the central event of October 12, the traditional military parade presided over by Kings Felipe VI and Letizia.
The President of the Government arrived in an official car and waited a few minutes before getting out of the vehicle and taking his place alongside the authorities to receive the monarchs. That first moment of tension marked the start of the ceremony in the capital.
Before the kings, Sánchez took his position in the parade protocol, while whistles and protests persisted around him. The scene took place in the square where the central event of the festive day was held.
Afterwards, Felipe VI, in the gala uniform of the Air Force, and Letizia arrived, accompanied by Princess Leonor, also in Army uniform, and Infanta Sofía.
The reproaches were repeated with the Royal Family
The whistles and jeers were heard again after the arrival of the monarchs, during the Royal Family's greeting to the State authorities and the Government ministers. The protocolary gesture took place, but the sound of protest accompanied the beginning of the ceremony.
For now, the reception in Plaza Cánovas del Castillo was marked by that contrast between military protocol and the visible protest against the head of the Executive, in an institutional event followed with special attention.
