The Council of Ministers has approved the call for scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year with an allocation of 2.559 million euros, the largest amount allocated so far to these educational aids. The budget represents a 5% increase compared to the previous academic year and maintains the trend of increasing spending on scholarships in recent years. The call is aimed at students of post-compulsory education, both university and non-university, and will foreseeably benefit close to one million students across Spain. The Government's objective is to facilitate access to higher education and reduce economic barriers to continue studies.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, highlighted the increase in educational investment through a message on the social network X in which he affirmed that “while others waste money on wars, this Government continues to consolidate rights”.

According to the Executive, the increase in funding will allow to maintain improvements introduced in previous calls, such as the increase in fixed amounts linked to income or the reinforcement of aid for students with fewer resources. From the Ministry of Education, they point out that the budget growth seeks to guarantee that more students can access these aids and continue their studies under equal conditions, especially in a context of increasing cost of living.
The call for scholarships will be approved several months in advance of the start of the academic year to facilitate that students know earlier if they meet the requirements and can plan their enrollment. The application period will open in the coming weeks and will allow students to apply for aid for the next academic year before formalizing their enrollment in the different educational centers.
