The Government delegate in Ceuta estimates at 2500 the number of migrant people who still remain in Ceuta after crossing the border

Fernando Grande Marlaska, Minister of the Interior, presented this Tuesday the number of migrants who illegally entered Ceuta last Thursday, 72,000 people. After this, the Government delegate, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, confirmed on the radio program Hoy por Hoy that there are still about 2,500 migrant people in the autonomous community.

Yesterday alone, 2,000 rations of food and drink were provided to the people remaining around the Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI); however, the Delegate states that in other areas of the El Príncipe neighborhood there are still people, therefore, the authorities estimate that the total could be around 2,500 people. Many of these people hope to find a spot in the CETI, something that at this moment, given the overwhelming situation, seems "impossible," says Pérez, who also assures that "it will not be quick or easy."

Regarding the number of minors, official data is not yet available, but Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano confirms that local authorities are handling a figure of about 500. "The priority is for minors to get off the streets," he commented, recalling that the Government announced this Tuesday an extraordinary allocation of 25 million euros destined for the care of unaccompanied minors. Furthermore, it seems that the Government is studying reinforcing the Delegation's Immigration Office to be able to process the files of these minors more quickly so that they can be transferred to other autonomous communities. "Now we are faced with the PP's refusal for any minor to arrive in their territory; Tellado has already said that the children have to go back the way they came," said Triano. He commented on this, recalling that, according to the law, they must be cared for in Spain. Should the refusal of the autonomous governments of PP and Vox persist, Pérez warns that the Public Prosecutor's Office for Minors will have to act ex officio.

The Government delegate in Ceuta has also admitted that the containment barrier installed next to the Tarajal border breakwater "only tries to comply with the Supreme Court's ruling," to return to the situation that allows for hot returns. "It's something provisional that we have in place and, for now, it fulfills its function. It's not so much that no one can enter, but that if they do enter, they can be expelled," he highlighted, before stating that "it is not a strong obstacle." Finally, Triano has confirmed that the Government gives importance to the messages circulating on social media in Morocco, calling on the population on August 15 in the Castillejos area for a new attempt to enter Spain. "Work is being done to be prepared," he concluded.
