The Government of Spain speaks out to condemn the plan proposed by Israel to build 1,200 homes in occupied territory

In recent days, it has become known that Israel has decided to consider the construction of 1,200 homes in settlements in occupied territories, more specifically, in the E1 area, a move which culminates in the territorial continuity of Palestine, in addition to separating East Jerusalem from the West Bank. Due to this Israeli plan, the Spanish Government has spoken out to denounce this move this Friday.

According to a statement from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, Spain has claimed that all these settlements that Israel intends to build in occupied Palestinian territory are contrary to International Law, because it would hinder the creation of a suitable solution for both states and consequently also the ability to reach a peace agreement.

For this reason, the Government has demanded that Israel reverse and reconsider this decision and also comply with its international obligations. In turn, it has urged the international community to assume its responsibilities to find the path towards a two-state solution that allows for a just and lasting peace.

This Israeli proposal was announced last Tuesday, August 18, when the Government of Israel communicated a new tender to build 1,234 new homes. Part of this controversial E1 movement with which it seeks to divide the north and south of the occupied West Bank, ignoring the rejection of the international community, which is why a few days later the Spanish Government has taken part in this matter.
