The Government has asked this Tuesday for maximum prudence given the high risk of fires that a large part of Spain is experiencing, with several large fires still active and a heat wave that will reach its most complicated moments between Wednesday and Thursday.
The spokesperson for the Executive, Elma Saiz, has conveyed Moncloa's "solidarity and full support" to the affected and evacuated people. She also thanked the work of the teams that have been protecting towns, homes, and natural areas in Guadalajara, Segovia, Teruel, and other areas of the country for days.
The resources of the General State Administration remain at the disposal of the autonomous communities, from the planes and helicopters of the Ministry for Ecological Transition to the Military Emergency Unit, the Civil Guard, and the rest of the Civil Protection resources.
"We are experiencing particularly complex weeks and the risk remains very high," Saiz warned after the Council of Ministers. The meteorological situation may hinder the stabilization of open fires and favor new ignitions in the coming days.
The Government will pay half of Guadalajara's recovery
The greatest concern continues in the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara. The fire started in La Mierla is already approaching 30,000 affected hectares, after forcing the evacuation of more than thirty towns and displacing around 1,200 people.
The fire has become the most extensive recorded in Castilla-La Mancha and the largest in Spain so far this year. Although some sectors show a more favorable evolution, it remains uncontrolled and the teams maintain special vigilance over the limits close to Soria.
The third vice-president and minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, visited the advanced command post in Tamajón this Tuesday and announced that the central government will cover 50% of the cost of the territory's recovery. The aid will be channeled after the extinction and once the actual affected area has been delimited. The next step will be the declaration of the area as severely affected by a Civil Protection emergency, the former figure of a disaster zone.
"An emergency does not end with extinction, it ends with recovery," Aagesen defended. The Executive will thus participate in efforts aimed at restoring natural heritage, repairing infrastructure, and assisting municipalities whose economy largely depends on livestock farming and rural tourism.
More than 670 state personnel, 220 ground vehicles, and 13 aircraft have been mobilized in this fire, as part of a joint operation involving several administrations.
Brieva improves, although eight towns remain evacuated
The fire declared in Brieva, in Segovia, showed a more favorable evolution this Tuesday. Night work allowed a large part of its perimeter to be secured with heavy machinery, although there are still hot spots and a significant accumulation of smoke.
The eight evacuated localities currently remain empty. These are Tenzuela, Losana de Pirón, Carrascal de la Cuesta, La Cuesta, Aldeasaz, Berrocal, Caballar, and Santo Domingo de Pirón.
The fire maintains level 2 severity and would have affected about 3,000 hectares, mainly crops, pastures, and dry vegetation. Several provincial roads remain closed, and the operation will re-examine the perimeter before authorizing the return of residents.
The improvement recorded overnight allows for some optimism, although the arrival of higher temperatures forces caution to be maintained and any possible reproduction to be monitored.
Ejulve keeps the municipality of Molinos evacuated
The most delicate situation in Aragon is now concentrated in Ejulve, in the province of Teruel. The fire remains active and at level 2 after affecting some 1,100 hectares of the Sierra de Majalinos. The operation is working to stop the head and both flanks of the fire, with special attention to its possible advance towards Cuevas de Cañart and an area of kermes oak. The evolution largely depends on the wind, high temperatures, and humidity that drops to values close to 20% during the central hours.
The municipality of Molinos remains evacuated and its nearly 250 residents have been transferred mainly to Alcorisa or to relatives' homes. Cuevas de Cañart, Ladruñán, and Dos Torres de Mercader remain on pre-alert.
The UME maintains two sections deployed and works alongside ground brigades, fire engines, aerial means, and heavy machinery. The A-1702 road between Ejulve and the port of Majalinos also remains closed.
In contrast, the Orés fire, in Zaragoza, continues to evolve favorably. Residents have begun to return to their homes and the operation is considering declaring it controlled, although it maintains vigilance over small reproductions and restricts access to the burned perimeter.
Wednesday marks the beginning of the toughest heat phase
AEMET places the official start of the heatwave on this Tuesday, but its peak will arrive between Wednesday and Thursday. The mass of warm, dry air with suspended dust will spread across a large part of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. On Wednesday, 40 degrees can be reached in wide areas of the south, the Meseta, and the Ebro valley. On Thursday, values between 42 and 44 degrees are expected in areas of the southeast, with very warm nights and little recovery of humidity.
The State Meteorological Agency warns that the risk of fires will continue to increase to extreme levels. Dry thunderstorms may also occur in mountainous areas of the eastern peninsula, with lightning and strong wind gusts, but with very little rain.
The Government has asked to avoid any conduct that could cause a spark, respect access restrictions to the mountain and follow the instructions of emergency services. The teams now face several days of extreme temperatures with thousands of hectares still hot and numerous residents waiting to be able to return to their homes.
