The Government will approve a package of fiscal measures aimed at reducing the price of electricity and is studying formulas to lower fuel prices for sectors such as agriculture and transport. The Executive's objective is to mitigate the impact of rising energy costs on the economy and on activities especially dependent on fuel.
According to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, the Government is working on different options to alleviate the energy bill. “We are working on fiscal measures to lower electricity prices,” he pointed out, while acknowledging that specific measures for other sectors are also being analyzed.
Among the possibilities being studied by the Executive is a reduction in fuel cost for activities such as agriculture and transport, two areas especially affected by oil price increases. “We are seeing what is the best way to support the transport sector and the primary sector,” the minister has indicated.
Cuerpo has defended that the Government maintains a constant monitoring of the evolution of energy prices and that it will act if the situation requires it. “We are monitoring the situation to see what measures are necessary,” he has stated.
The Executive plans to approve some of these initiatives in the upcoming Councils of Ministers as part of a strategy to contain the economic impact of the rising cost of energy and protect both companies and consumers.
