The opposition parties in the Community of Madrid have reacted with criticism to the summons as an investigated person of Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, chief of staff of the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The judicial decision has provoked reproaches from PSOE and Más Madrid, who have questioned the attitude of the regional government leader after the investigation became known.
The events date back to March 2024, when Rodríguez disseminated in a chat with several media outlets the identity and the photographs of two journalists. In that message, he claimed falsely that the reporters had been harassing residents of the building where Ayuso lives with her partner, something that was later questioned in the judicial process.
After the judicial summons became known, the general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid, Óscar López, reacted with irony and assured that Rodríguez would continue “forward”, an expression popularized by the chief of staff himself during the trial against the Attorney General of the State. López also accused Rodríguez of trying “to threaten, harass and intimidate” journalists, which he defined as “his specialty”.
From Más Madrid, its spokesperson Manuela Bergerot also harshly criticized the actions of Ayuso's advisor. Bergerot stated that “Miguel Ángel Rodríguez is going to have to answer for his mafia methods” and expressed her wish that “the process advances in justice and ends in a resounding conviction that puts an end to the impunity of one of the most toxic figures in Spanish politics”.
The controversy occurs in the instruction phase of the procedure, where they summon Rodríguez to testify next May 6.
