Pope Leo XIV will hold a meeting this Monday afternoon with victims of sexual abuse committed within the Catholic Church. The meeting will take place at 4:15 PM at the Apostolic Nunciature in Madrid, where the Pontiff is staying during his visit to Spain.

The meeting will occur on the last day of the Pope's stay in the capital, just hours after he stars in another historic moment with his speech before the Cortes Generales in the Congress of Deputies. Although the Vatican had previously announced the meeting with victims, neither the location nor the time of the meeting had been revealed until now.

The meeting comes amidst controversy after several associations of victims and survivors of abuse reported that they had not been summoned. These groups fear that the Pontiff will only meet with people linked to the Repara project, promoted by the Archdiocese of Madrid for the care and support of those affected by abuse in ecclesial environments.

As a sign of their discontent, different organizations have announced demonstrations this Sunday and Monday in front of the Nunciature to demand a broader and more representative hearing. The groups maintain that all victims must have a voice in a visit they consider key to advancing recognition, reparation, and the fight against abuse within the Church.
