The spokesperson for the PSOE Federal Executive, Montse Mínguez, accused this Saturday the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of having put “in a bind” the House of the King after requesting the return to Spain of Juan Carlos I, resident in the United Arab Emirates since 2020, after the declassification of documents about the attempted coup d'état of February 23, 1981.

In an interview on the program ‘Parlamento’ of Radio Nacional de España, reported by 'ElConstitucional.es', Mínguez reproached Feijóo for having gone in a few days from describing as “smokescreen” the announcement of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to make public the 23F papers, to maintaining that the declassification is “as relevant as to question the role of the emeritus king” and even defending his return to the country.

In his judgment, these statements, made after the content of the documents about the coup became known, place the House of the King in an uncomfortable position. The monarchical institution has indicated that any decision about the eventual return of the emeritus corresponds exclusively to him.
