The National Court Prosecutor's Office has closed the proceedings opened to examine the content of the pendrive that former socialist militant Leire Díez handed over to the PSOE in June 2025, when she requested her voluntary resignation from the party. The device was subsequently sent by the PSOE to the State Attorney General's Office so that it could assess whether the material could lead to a new criminal case or be referred to already open investigations.

The decision comes after the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard analyzed the content of the USB at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office. According to the published information, the examination concludes that there is nothing that should be brought to court and that a good part of the material consisted of already known documentation, such as "press clippings", or in elements without sufficient substance to open a new judicial process.

One of the most relevant pieces of information is the volume of the material delivered. The PSOE sent the Prosecutor's Office a pendrive with 140 audio and text files, which were studied to verify if they contained unknown facts with possible criminal relevance. After that detailed analysis, the Prosecutor's Office has opted to close the pre-procedural investigations.

The investigation into that USB was opened months after recordings surfaced in which Leire Díez spoke with a person under investigation in a hydrocarbons case and allegedly offered him a deal with the Prosecutor's Office in exchange for compromising information. It was in that context when she went to Ferraz, communicated her departure from the party, and handed over the device.

The archiving of these proceedings does not affect the other judicial fronts that Díez has open. The published information indicates that she remains investigated in Madrid for alleged crimes of influence peddling and bribery, and also appears in another case in the National Court, under secrecy, related to alleged irregular commissions for public contracts. In this last one, she is linked, along with the former president of SEPI Vicente Fernández Guerrero, with alleged rigging of contracts worth 132 million euros.
