The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has taken a firm stance on this week's political and judicial landscape. The Executive has ruled out any change or dismissal after recent investigations affecting various names in his circle, such as Belén Gualda, president of the State Society of Industrial Participations (SEPI), or the indictment of the director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González. The presidential position has been to keep officials in their posts despite the opposition's demands for resignation.
From Moncloa and Interior, they insist that the Executive's actions are based on "total normality and transparency," and they emphasize that "there is nothing to hide" in relation to the decisions adopted by the Government and the functioning of its structures. In this context, the Executive has reacted to the indictment of the Director General of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González and the Deputy Operational Director (DAO), Manuel Llamas, within the framework of the so-called 'Leire case', where both are summoned to testify on July 16 before the Audiencia Nacional.
Government sources emphasize that the affected officials "will continue to exercise their functions as before" arguing that the opening of proceedings does not imply automatic changes in public office or in the institutional structure. The message conveyed from the environment of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, coincides with that expressed by the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, who has repeatedly asked for "absolute tranquility" considering that these are investigations still in an initial phase.
With this decision, the Executive maintains a consistent line of action in this type of procedure, defending the continuity of the investigated officials while judicial cases progress and rejecting that the opening of proceedings implies, by itself, the adoption of immediate political responsibilities.
