The Garibaldi tavern, linked to the former Vice President of the Government Pablo Iglesias, has once again been the target of a vandal attack for the second consecutive day with graffiti of Nazi symbolism. On this occasion, the premises have woken up with a swastika and the number “1488”, a code used by neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups.
Iglesias himself has publicly denounced these events, which are added to those that occurred the previous day, when graffiti appeared with a Celtic cross, another symbol associated with the far-right. It is the first time that the establishment suffers aggressions of this type for two consecutive days.
The number “1488” refers to the so-called “14 palabras”, a supremacist slogan, along with the expression “Heil Hitler”, which evidences the ideological nature of the attacks. These actions are part of a strategy of intimidation which, according to reports from the establishment's surroundings, seeks to target and harass spaces identified as anti-fascist.
From the Garibaldi tavern they have warned that it is not about isolated incidents, but of a campaign of harassment continued. In this regard, they are evaluating measures before what they consider an escalation of organized violence by far-right groups.
