On Thursday night, former Podemos deputy and activist Serigne Mbaye, has been detained along with six other people for a confrontation with agents of the National Police, in a “racist raid”, according to how Podemos has described it. Approximately at 1 in the morning he has been released. However, the ultra Vito Quiles has reacted to this detention showing once again his hatred towards racialized people.
The arrest video shows how the police, through violent practices have carried out the arrest. “I celebrate that the police arrest this delinquent”, the ultra has stated on his social media. Furthermore, he has demanded: “Jail and immediate deportation would be the logical way to proceed.”
I celebrate that the police arrest this delinquent. Not only does he practice an illegal business, he also threatened me with violence in an act and is an aggressive guy who performs escort functions without any qualification. Jail and immediate deportation would be the logical way to proceed. https://t.co/H00tbTc1j2

The former deputy has been released and has denounced the “police persecution and violence” and has insisted that this action is due to “pure and hard racism”. The purple party has continued denouncing “the aggression suffered” and has conveyed their support to him.
Through the Bluesky account of Podemos Comunidad de Madrid they have published: “We show all our support to our colleague Serigne Mbaye after his arrest and the aggression suffered. What happened is very serious and demands immediate explanations. We are with you, Serigne”.
From Podemos Community of Madrid we show all our support to our colleague Serigne Mbaye after his arrest and the aggression suffered. What happened is very serious and demands immediate explanations. We are with you, Serigne. #SerigneMbaye #Podemos #HumanRights

Likewise, the political party of Ione Belarra, has assured that the police action, has taken place in the vicinity of Mbaye's home, in Villaverde, and frames it in a context of racist actions.
The National Police has explained that his arrest is due to the fact that allegedly two individuals were trying to steal a car and when two plainclothes officers tried to identify them, one of them ran off and took refuge in a premises where Mbaye was located, who, allegedly, intervened to prevent the individual's arrest. One of the police officers was slightly injured.
