The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has appeared before the media after the celebration of the extraordinary Council of Ministers where the measures to be included in the war plan have been debated. Thus, he has clarified that the plan will contain 80 measures, which will come into force when published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and that it will mobilize five billion euros. The plan contains two decrees: one with tax cuts (PSOE) and another with housing measures (Sumar).
After the president, the spokesperson for Sumar and Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, declared, who has explained the social shield which includes housing measures. Thus, he explained that it contains proposals for the “control of business margins of large company and the extension of rental contracts, which comes into force this Saturday and will last two years if Congress validates it” and has communicated that increases will be limited to 2% of the IPC to avoid undesired effects if inflation escalates.
Sumar had been all week maintaining a pulse with the PSOE so that they would join the housing initiatives such as the extension of rentals. However, the members of Sumar have decided not to enter the meeting that should have started at 9 in the morning, for not including this housing initiative, at first.
Asked about this aspect, Urtasun, has conveyed a message of calm assuring that at no time did they consider leaving the Government. However, he has warned that it will be necessary to convince Junts and the PNV to support this extension.
“The role of Sumar, to be in the government to transform and for the government to adopt a direction of protection of rights and social progress," the minister has concluded.
Sumar applauds the agreement
After 50 minutes of meeting, the members of the coalition Government have managed to reach an agreement that is being applauded by Sumar through its social networks. In this regard, the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Pablo Bustinduy, expresses on his Bluesky account: "The Government has approved the extension for two years of rental contracts and a mechanism to prevent unjustified margins for large companies. These are two very important achievements for the social majority of our country".
Likewise, the Minister of Health, Mónica García, clarifies: "Now yes, for sure. We have reached an agreement in the Council of Ministers to expand the social shield by incorporating the extension of rents and control over business margins."
