The latest news we received this Tuesday, announced by Elma Saiz at the press conference following the Council of Ministers, confirms that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has decided to break up the omnibus decree that included the revaluation of pensions. This increase was rejected last week in the Congress of Deputies by PP, Vox, and Junts, who argued that the decree contained very diverse measures among themselves, some with no apparent relation, such as the measure to guarantee that vulnerable people are not left on the street and are not evicted - even if they cannot pay rent - until they are offered housing alternatives. Finally, Sánchez has decided to separate the revaluation of pensions from the rest of the measures to ensure their approval in Congress, seeking the favorable vote of the PP and JuntsHowever, beyond the negative focus that some media outlets want to project, the truth is that the **Government has acted correctly: it has guaranteed the revaluation of pensions** and, therefore, the right of some citizens to receive a dignified pension based on what they have contributed throughout their working lives. In politics, sometimes you have to give in on certain fronts to achieve real benefits for citizens, and this is a clear example. Sánchez's rectification ensures that pensioners see their rights protected, despite the headlines that try to convey the idea of defeat against the opposition simulating a tug-of-war between Sánchez and Feijóo with a favorable outcome for the latter. It remains to be seen how the rest of the "social shield" will develop. The PNV is negotiating with the Government to extend this protection to owners with a single property as well, which could further strengthen the social safety net.

Ultimately, although headlines may suggest otherwise, decent pensions are guaranteed. That is the achievement that truly matters, and it is a move that deserves all the recognition.
