British singer Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75, as confirmed by her official page and a statement released by her family. The artist died last night in a hospital in Portugal, where she had been admitted due to an illness, although no further details about the causes of her death have been provided yet.

The singer's family has explained that they will issue a new statement in the coming hours and have requested respect and privacy to cope with these moments. Tyler had been hospitalized since last May, when she underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Faro. After remaining in an induced coma for several weeks, it was reported in mid-June that she had woken up, although she remained in a very serious condition.

Born as Gaynor Hopkins on June 8, 1951, in Skewen (Wales), Bonnie Tyler became one of the most recognizable voices in the international music scene thanks to her unmistakable raspy tone, a consequence of vocal cord surgery. She achieved global success with anthems such as It's a Heartache, Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero, establishing herself as one of the great pop and rock stars of the eighties.

Throughout a career spanning almost five decades, she released 18 studio albums and collaborated with artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Mike Oldfield, Cher, Meat Loaf, and David Guetta. In addition to her musical career, she represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, carried out extensive philanthropic work, and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Swansea University, leaving a legacy that marked several generations of music lovers.
