Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung in which she claims at least 15 million dollars (12.7 million euros) for the alleged unauthorized use of her image in the promotion of televisions. The singer maintains that the company would have included a copyrighted photograph on the packaging of its products, which would have generated an undue commercial advantage.
According to the complaint filed before a federal court in California, the image used corresponds to Dua Lipa-Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024, of which the artist claims to be the owner of all rights. The singer's legal team argues that this use would have misled consumers, creating the impression that there was an official endorsement or collaboration between the performer and the technology brand.
The lawyers of Dua Lipa, who has more than 90 million followers on social media, also state that the artist tried to stop the use of her image since June of last year, without success. The lawsuit also includes accusations for violation of image rights and registered trademark, pointing out that the case has affected her commercial reputation and the identity of her artistic brand. Samsung, for its part, has declined to comment as it is an ongoing litigation.
