The controversy surrounding Chica Almodóvar, the song by Joaquín Sabina, returns to the scene after the statements by Pedro Almodóvar on the podcast La Pija y la Quinqui, where the director confessed that he never liked the song.
Now, the musician Pancho Varona, has decided to speak out in content commented on by journalist Javi Hoyos, providing a new version of events after 40 years working alongside Sabina. According to Varona, the singer-songwriter was even “extremely worried” about the filmmaker's reaction and was precisely looking for the opposite of a mockery.
“I perfectly remember that Joaquín was extremely worried that Almodóvar would like the song. I was sure that Pedro was not going to like it”, Varona would have explained, underlining that the artist's intention was to please the director and not to inconvenience him. In fact, he adds that he considered “first-year logic” that Almodóvar would not like the final result, thus dismantling the idea of a direct or intentional criticism towards his figure.
