Rosalía, at the center of an unfair hate campaign by some Argentinians after sharing a video about Spain's World Cup victory

Spain's victory against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final continues to generate reactions beyond the sports arena. On this occasion, the protagonist has been Rosalía, who has found herself at the center of the conversation in Argentina after sharing a TikTok video of Mia Khalifa celebrating the Spanish national team's triumph. The gesture has provoked a strong response on social media and has led to a campaign in which some users claim they will try to return tickets for the concerts the singer will offer in Buenos Aires in early August as part of the tour to present Lux.

The video shared by the artist showed Mia Khalifa celebrating Spain's title while La Perla, one of the songs from Rosalía's new album, played. Although the publication was interpreted by some of the public as a show of support for the Spanish national team, numerous Argentine fans considered it a mockery of the Albiceleste. Since then, social media has been filled with messages calling for a boycott of her performances and users claiming to have put their tickets up for sale or initiated inquiries to request a refund. 

The controversy has also spilled over into some Argentine television programs. In spaces such as La Trinchera, several commentators dedicated harsh comments against the singer, even uttering personal insults and disqualifications that exceed any legitimate criticism. In addition, some collaborators publicly encouraged people to attend the concerts to boycott the performances, while other speeches even included messages of rejection towards foreigners and xenophobic proposals that have generated widespread controversy. A type of discourse that, from here, we consider unacceptable and that should not have a place in any communication space.

Faced with this climate of hostility, numerous voices have also emerged calling for a lowering of the tone of the debate and for differentiating a sports celebration from personal attacks. Among them is Mexican journalist Maca Carriedo, who, in the program Macanazo Informativo, has publicly defended that no gesture related to a football result justifies hate campaigns, insults, or conspiracies. A reflection with which we fully agree: football awakens intense emotions, but it should never serve as an excuse to normalize harassment, dehumanization, or hate speech. Celebrating a victory cannot become a reason to target, insult, or persecute anyone.

For the moment, Rosalía has chosen to remove the repost of Mia Khalifa's video from her profile and has not made any public statements about the controversy.
