Álex Márquez and Johann Zarco have been protagonists of a serious accident during the Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix that has left the paddock on alert.
The rider from Cervera suffered a fall of great violence after impacting at high speed with the KTM of Pedro Acosta, which presented a mechanical problem. Although it was initially reported that he was conscious, he was immediately transferred to the hospital to perform more exhaustive tests.
Hours after the race, the team Gresini confirmed the definitive medical report: Márquez presents a marginal fracture in the C7 vertebra and another fracture in the right clavicle.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the rider underwent surgery this same Sunday, where a plate was placed to stabilize the clavicle, while the evolution of the cervical injury will be evaluated in the coming days. The team of Gresini Racing and the rider himself have confirmed that he will leave the hospital this afternoon.
The medical statement indicates that it will be necessary to perform new tests during the next week to determine the full extent of the recovery.
